4th Sunday of Easter – The Good Shepherd Sunday 2014

My brothers and sisters in the Risen Christ,

Reading ahead the Gospel this weekend, Saint John introduced to us an image of a Good Shepherd.  A good shepherd is the one who cares for his sheep.  A good shepherd is the one who dedicates his life for his sheep with compassion.  Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for us as His sheep.  Jesus Christ who fed His sheep with His Body and Blood and promised to those who partake this will remain in Him.

In the sacristy of St. Boniface, we have a big statue of the Good Shepherd; I often vest myself and stand in front of the statue praying to Jesus Christ our Risen Lord who is our ultimate Shepherd.

This weekend for many countries including our own, we honor our earthly mother: Mother’s Day.  God commends us to honor our mother and father to show our gratitude to them for what they have done to protect and form our life.  They are like the Good Shepherd who gives us the earthly life, and the Ultimate Shepherd who will welcome us into the life for eternity.

Let us renew our life in Christ when we come to the table to receive the Lord.  Let us honor our earthly mother through the intercession of our Heavenly Mother during this May.  Our Heavenly Mother will ask her Son, who is the Good Shepherd, to pour grace up on us through this life and the everlasting life.

In Christ’s Love,
