Pastor’s Column

Pastor’s Column June 30, 2013

It is with a sad heart that I write my last pastor’s column for these two beautiful parishes out here in God’s country! I have so enjoyed being out here as your pastor for the last almost 5 years. I feel as though you have all helped me grow into the priest/pastor that I am. My first couple of months here back in 2008, I remember my insecurity, my silly mistakes and my desire to love you all well (with God’s own love). The wonderful parishioners of these two parishes welcomed me with open arms and told me over and over again, that it was okay to make mistakes. You invited me into your homes with lunches and dinners; you took me out to breakfast and helped me so much in all matters that really spoiled me rotten. For everything you have taught me over the years, I am truly thankful!

Please know that all of you will be in my prayers, and I ask you to please always remember me in yours. Authentic prayer from the heart is the key to everything. There is nothing more important than our relationship with God… We can’t give what we don’t have! God’s love and presence we receive in our prayer is what we are able to give to our families, friends, neighbors, the stranger, Church, and world (and to your priest). Conversion of heart, love for God and neighbor, is what makes us happy and free. Selfishness, sin, bad habits… all make us sad and miserable!

And so, I leave celebrating the time I have had with you, but also sad that I am now leaving. Excited for my next assignment, but wishing to stay with the friends I leave behind. You have been incredibly generous with sharing your gifts and talents. I am a blessed man to have had this time with you.

It is not goodbye! It is until I see you again next time. Take care and God Bless!

Peace, Fr. Tom
